So did you know that Jack Keouac died in St. Petersburg? Well, he did. Just a few blocks from where I grew up -- even fewer from where my brother lives now. Crazy. He even died at the hospital my grandmother worked at.
What's funnier, however, is that no one seems to know this. Granted, Kerouac didn't particularly love St. Petersburg, saying, essentially, that it was little more than a great place to die, but still.
Until 1999 Jack Kerouac was still listed in the St. Petersburg phonebook. The house is still owned by the Kerouac estate .
