So we spent this past weekend in Bend, OR, which is a pretty awesome place. We have been wanting to camp at Tumalo State Park since we moved to Oregon back in 2003, but it never worked out, until now.
The campground itself has a set of solar showers, which are quite nice, but the overall site isn't that spectacular. Our particular site was little more than a thick covering of dust—a feature that was not that common to the park, we were just lucky.
But the environment was wonderful. A nice change from the ever-green of Portland. It was fun to play in the Deschutes, (river, not the brewery) which ran right through the camp, and I cannot tell you how exciting it was to see stars again. Beautiful!
Rowan was slightly off his game for this trip. He seemed to be missing something—toys, the familiar, I'm not sure. But, for the most part, he had fun.
London made a lot of new friends, which is always fun to see, and Sarah and I tried to keep our phones charged so that we could read the live feeds from the Tour. Good times.
Bend itself was pretty impressive. The number of cyclists with Dura-Ace components was well above average and even the highway had a designated bike lane. Nice. I think Chris Horner lives here as well as some other cycling greats.
We also went to Newberry Caldera, which is just a bit south of Bend, to see their 1300-year-old obsedian flow. Very cool.
London was a bit nervous about being in a caldera so there are no pictures of him smiling while there, but I don't think he was traumatized. We'll see.
